Which electric storage heater
is right for your home?

Not every electric storage heater is equally suitable for every room. Key factors are room size, insulation standard, desired comfort, and possible combination with PV systems. TECHNOTHERM offers suitable models for various requirements in private residential areas.

Determine the right output per room

The heating output should be matched to room size and insulation. As a rule of thumb: 60–100 watts per square meter. For well-insulated new builds, less is often sufficient – for old buildings or bathrooms, higher values are necessary.

Designs: compact and power from 850 watts to 3440 watts

TECHNOTHERM offers models for all living areas and more powerful variants for large or poorly insulated rooms. The installation depth is only 18.5 cm – space-saving and effective.

With or without intelligent control?

An integrated control system automatically regulates the charging power according to temperature and demand. Models with smart control enable additional savings and more comfort – e.g., via app or weekly program.

Combination with PV – when is it worthwhile?

If solar power is available during the day, it can be specifically used to charge the fireclay core. Especially for homeowners with PV systems, this increases independence from grid electricity and reduces operating costs.

Why an electric storage heater?

Modern electric storage heaters from TECHNOTHERM offer proven technology for efficient heat storage. With a durable fireclay core, precise control, and optimal PV combinability, they are suitable for new builds, renovations, or as a replacement for old night storage heaters.

How does an electric storage heater work?

TECHNOTHERM electric storage heaters use an internal Ferrolit core for heat storage. The charging power is determined by the desired room temperature. Heat is released evenly via radiation and convection. An auxiliary heater for transitional periods is integrated ex-works. The system is controlled by modern, demand-oriented regulators.

Heat storage in the fireclay core

An electrical heating element heats the Ferrolit core inside the device. This thermally stores the energy and releases it to the room over time, distributed throughout the day – ideal for off-peak electricity or PV use.

Even heat emission over many hours

The stored heat is released to the room air and surrounding surfaces via large heating surfaces. A combination of convection and radiant heat ensures a pleasant indoor climate without temperature fluctuations.

Intelligent control for demand-oriented charging

The integrated control continuously measures the room temperature and regulates the charging power accordingly. This ensures that only as much energy as actually needed is stored – efficiently and cost-optimized.

Difference from old night storage heaters

Modern TECHNOTHERM electric storage heaters operate more efficiently, have more compact designs, and offer more precise control. Energy input is demand-driven, no longer exclusively time-controlled as with older systems.

Replace or modernize
electric storage heaters

Replacing outdated night storage devices with modern electric storage heaters brings noticeable efficiency advantages – with low installation effort. TECHNOTHERM offers suitable solutions for old buildings, renovations, and existing properties.

When is it worthwhile to replace old night storage heaters?

For devices older than 20 years, replacement is advisable for efficiency and safety reasons. New storage heaters consume less electricity, operate more precisely, and meet current requirements for comfort and operating costs.

Safety and efficiency advantages of new storage devices

Modern models feature contemporary safety technology, temperature-controlled regulation, and more efficient fireclay core systems. This reduces energy losses and increases the lifespan of components.

Easy replacement without major installation effort

Existing electrical connections can often continue to be used. Installation is carried out without intervention in water-carrying systems – quickly, cleanly, and with minimal construction time.

More efficiency through modern control technology

Digital regulators, room thermostats, and PV-compatible controls enable precise adaptation to actual heat demand – for optimized power consumption and increased living comfort.

Frequently asked questions about our electric storage heaters

Yes, modern electric storage heaters are still permitted and are a sensible solution in many applications. The restrictions introduced in 2009 have since been adjusted. Today, efficient storage heaters with intelligent control and low connection power are considered eligible technology – especially in combination with renewable energies or PV systems. TECHNOTHERM exclusively offers devices that comply with all current standards and regulations.

Operating costs depend on room size, insulation, and usage behavior. Example: With an average electricity tariff of 30 cents/kWh and an annual consumption of 4,800 kWh (for approx. 80 m²), heating costs amount to approx. 1,440 Euros annually. These costs can be significantly reduced with self-generated PV electricity or favorable tariffs.

A heating element charges a fireclay core inside the device. The stored heat is released evenly over many hours via convection and radiation into the room. The charging power is regulated by a thermostat or digital control – as needed.

Modern devices are more compact, more efficient, and feature intelligent controls. They automatically adapt the charging power to actual demand, reduce electricity consumption, and offer more comfort. Old devices usually operate with fixed charging times without temperature reference – which is no longer up-to-date.
Yes, TECHNOTHERM storage heaters are ideal for use with PV systems. The fireclay core can be specifically charged with surplus solar power – for optimizing self-consumption and reducing electricity costs. A PV connection makes the heating system particularly sustainable and economical.

Definitely yes. The replacement not only improves efficiency but also safety, controllability, and aesthetics. Existing electrical connections can often continue to be used. The investment pays for itself through lower electricity consumption and higher control accuracy – especially when combined with smart home or PV.
